BBB Tip of the Week: Vetting Wedding Vendors

bride and groom's hands with rings and bouquetWeddings have always been a celebration of a couple’s love for each other, but in recent times, they’ve become elaborate events that involve vendors ranging from caterers, florists and photographers to dance bands, videographers and wedding souvenir procurers.

Finding trustworthy vendors is key to putting on a wedding without unexpected surprises. Friends may be able to refer you to businesses they’ve used, but they may not have all the information you need. Better Business Bureau is a great place to check out wedding vendors of all kinds, from wedding officiants to jewelers.

BBB Business Reviews contain vital information, such as contact information, websites and any history of complaints filed with BBB. You can read descriptions of the complaints and find out how they were resolved. You can find reviews at BBB’s website,, or by calling 314-645-3300.

Once you find a vendor, be sure to ask lots of questions, on a contract that lists specifics and read it before signing. Don’t pay for anything up front: Hold something in reserve in case there’s a problem and pay it only when you’re totally satisfied.
